Reeds were believed to be trees by the druids because they have such a deep and dense root system. The druids used the cuttings of reeds to produce pens and are believed to symbolize scholarship, knowledge and wisdom.

 

The reeds are bined by English Walnut. The black Celtic knot on the top of the pen is not an applique, but inlaid ebony.
